Roy Williamson hat das Lied geschrieben und damit unbewußt oder bewußt die Kraft und auch das ganze Gefühl Schottlands für seine werte und seine Vergangenheit eingefangen. Ein Lied in der Tradition der Jakobiter voller Kampfgeist. Und so ist es auch kein Wunder, daßdieses Lied eine Art heimlicher Nationalhymne wurde, welches unter anderem bei Football-Spielen erklingt und auch sonst eigentlich nirgends fehlt, wo Schottlands Geist vertreten ist.
